Bethany Nicholson (SNL) is a Principal R&D Member of Technical Staff in the Discrete Math and Optimization Department within the Center for Computing Research at Sandia National Laboratories. Her research expertise is in nonlinear and dynamic optimization and applications like parameter estimation and optimal control. She has worked on several software tools for making advanced mathematical techniques accessible to broader audiences. Bethany is part of the core development team for the Pyomo algebraic modeling software package and the principal developer behind the Pyomo. DAE extension for dynamic optimization. Bethany has a B.S. from Illinois Institute of Technology (2011) and a Ph.D. from Carnegie Mellon University (2016), both in Chemical Engineering.
